A New Icon of Murano Craftsmanship: Custom Suspension for the Gloria Restaurant, Barcelona

Custom Murano Glass Lighting Project by Bottega Veneziana

For the new Gloria restaurant of the Big Mamma Group in Barcelona, Bottega Veneziana developed a complete, custom-made lighting concept in collaboration with Kiki Studio, the creative team behind the group’s distinctive visual identity.

The central feature of the project is a spectacular Murano glass suspension, a completely new model never seen before. Extending almost six meters across the bar counter, the piece is composed of five modular elements that combine amber glass leaves, opaline light bands, and brass structural details. The result is a luminous centerpiece that defines the warm and immersive atmosphere of the interior, standing as a statement of Venetian craftsmanship and contemporary design innovation.

Each module is entirely handcrafted in our Venetian atelier, made up of twelve blown-glass leaves (six per side) produced using traditional Murano techniques. The structure blends architectural precision and artisanal mastery, ensuring functionality, visual balance, and perfect harmony with the interior design.

Inspired by an original 1930s design attributed to Carlo Scarpa, this new suspension reinterprets the classic Murano aesthetic in a bold, contemporary way, achieving a timeless dialogue between tradition and modernity.

The lighting composition is completed by a matching chandelier with Murano glass tubes echoing the amber tones of the central installation, coordinated wall lamps and custom-designed table lamps conceived to create a cohesive and emotionally engaging atmosphere.

This project demonstrates how light, when born from a shared vision between designers and artisans, can become an integral part of both the architectural and emotional identity of a space - transforming Venetian glassmaking into a living expression of design culture.
