Natural Pattern adorns the new hotel in Okinawa
Hotel Interior Meets Sunshine
Located at the southernmost sea in Japan, islands of Okinawa are absolutely one of the most popular resort spots in the country. Surrounded by emerald blue sea, it is the place that you can indulge yourself in the heavenly paradise away from the stressful every day’s work.
At the end of July 2022, a new luxurious hotel was opened at the southernmost beach of main island, Nashiro. 50,000㎡ of total site, two wings with 443 rooms, all ocean-front. Among them, 160 rooms are decorated with Duco’s specialty Natural Pattern, designed and manufactured on acrylic panel coated with urushi lacquer, on the theme of tropical sea and flowers. 3 panels of different color and pattern are assembled into one frame and hung on the wall mirror of the guest rooms. When they meet the tropical sunshine, they will make reflection unique and brilliant.
When you step outside the guest room, you will meet more Natural Pattern on larger scale in 3 places. 5 panels of Bougainville at the restaurant Nashiro Dining, and 3 panels of Sakura in the passageway on 2nd floor from House C to House N.
But the most important achievement of all is Kuba, that adorns Premier Club Lounge. Kuba is the local name of Chinese Fan Palm (Livistona chinensis), palm with long thin leaves. It has been an essential plant for the life in Okinawa. They are naturally grown, and in olden days leaves are dried and used for roofs, or woven into fan, hat or basket, so important in tropical daily life. With these on mind, acrylic was coated with urushi lacquer, cut meticulously by the laser machine and then curved, to produce Natural Pattern Kuba. Now 3 sizes of silvery Kuba are over the bar counter like swaying in the Okinawa breeze, surrounded by the emerald sea.
Along with the tropical atmosphere, Duco ‘s art in hotel renders Nashiro Beach the place of vacation never to forget.
