TALES IN GLASS, 70 YEARS OF LOVE FOR GLASS
TALES IN GLASS, 70 YEARS OF LOVE FOR GLASS
To mark its 70th anniversary, Gallotti&Radice presents Tales in Glass, a celebration of its heritage through the dialectic between craftsmanship and innovation, rooted in the brand’s origins and its pioneering use of glass since 1956. A journey through past, present, and future — where glass is both material and language — tracing the brand’s evolution from early experimentation to new directions, between industry and poetry.
SHAPING THE FUTURE
Working with glass involves a degree of unpredictability—and, with it, the joy of discovery. By its very nature, glass is a material in flux: it transforms during the making process and, over time, continues to reveal new facets. Driven by an urgency to explore and challenge its limits, the workshop becomes a place where past, present, and future converge.Engaging with the brand’s heritage are six international designers— Valentina Cameranesi Sgroi, Ivania Carpio, Estudio Persona, Rania Hamed, Fumie Shibata and Miminat Shodeinde. Guided by the vision of Silvia Gallotti, each contributor offers a distinct perspective, bringing a unique cultural background and an individual approach to material and process, deeply rooted in their origins. This collaboration unfolds in multiple expressions: from sinuous forms and light-sensitive surfaces to compositions that emphasize the structural potential of glass, at times lending it unexpected weight, density, and an architectural dimension.Shaped by artisanal savoir-faire, technical expertise, and forward-thinking design, the language of Gallotti&Radice continues to evolve, projecting the brand toward new horizons. Glass is not merely a material; it is the golden thread running through a vision that spans over seventy years of history.
EMBRACING THE PRESENT
Glass remains central, engaging in a dialogue with a diverse palette of materials. Artisanal finishes and precious decorations define sophisticated, tactile surfaces, showcasing an ancient craft reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. With a distinct, identity-driven vocabulary and an unwavering commitment to research, Gallotti&Radice has shaped its collection into a versatile universe that interprets modern living through timeless elegance. Each piece reflects the excellence of Made in Italy, merging refined savoir-faire with a metropolitan sensibility. The harmony of lines, the fluidity of forms, and the balanced proportions delineate a universal language—the hallmark of the collection. This aesthetic is born from the shared vision of the designers, the brand’s stylistic interpreters, and the personal sensibility of Silvia Gallotti. The result is an immersive and sensorial experience that places the pleasure of living at its core, celebrating an enveloping aesthetic that elevates every space.
HONORING THE PAST
Glass has been at the heart of Gallotti&Radice’s identity since its inception. For founders Pierangelo Gallotti e Luigi Radice, their Como-based workshop became a laboratory where craftsmanship and technical research converged, revitalizing an ancient practice through tireless experimentation. As one of the first companies in Italy to explore glass within furniture design, the brand distinguished itself by introducing the metal joint. This element evolved from a mere structural necessity into a defining stylistic hallmark, creating a design language where form and function are inextricably intertwined. In the 1970s, a pivotal collaboration with architect Luigi Massoni led to the creation of Adam, the first Gallotti&Radice table made entirely of glass. Together with a curated selection of original archival pieces, it reveals a profound mastery of the material—guided by a clarity of vision and a rigorous sense of balance. It remains an enduring narrative of design icons and continuous innovation.
«Glass is part of who we are and, over the years, it has become our alphabet— the language through which we give shape to ideas, a pencil for drawing space.Because glass never stops speaking: you just have to know how to listen to it».
