After an extensive rehabilitation process, the Beira-Rio Market reopens with a new concept that combines the contemporary gastronomic experience with the sale of fresh products, a tradition that has been ongoing for 80 years. The beautiful building, located on the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia, is no longer the traditional "marketplace": fruit and vegetable stalls, butcher shops, and typical cafes and craft shops have seen their spaces upgraded, now coexisting with modern restaurants, wine and beer bars, and traditional confectionery stores.

In addition to establishing itself as a prime gastronomic destination for the local community and tourists, the Beira-Rio Market will focus on a dynamic cultural programme, including live music, art exhibitions, poetry recitals, and seasonal thematic events throughout the year.

The lighting of the space, an essential element in creating a welcoming and contemporary atmosphere, is enhanced by Indelague with the Concept O luminaire. This lighting system combines innovative design and energy efficiency, highlighting the market's different environments and emphasising its renovated architecture.

The architectural rehabilitation project is signed by the Ferreira de Almeida Arquitectos studio; the management of the Beira-Rio Market has been entrusted to Fachada Oceânica, a consortium composed of the construction company Lucios and Legível Puzzle, whose partners include PEV Entertainment and Jocalu Higiene Industrial. The space's operation was granted by the Vila Nova de Gaia City Council for 30 years.

In total, this new hub for the local community and tourists offers an area exceeding 1,000 m² and 47 commercial spaces. The space features 178 indoor seats and 344 outdoor terrace seats and will operate with extended hours throughout the year. The project will generate close to 100 new jobs and an annual turnover of approximately 3.5 million euros.
