Aalborg University Library
A classic reading room with a difference
Aalborg University Library recently opened its newly designed reading room, which is a unique blend of traditional charm and contemporary design. The room has been designed to meet the needs of students and researchers by creating an ideal learning environment with a calm and relaxed atmosphere, while at the same time being aesthetically pleasing. Natural materials such as wood, black metal and concrete characterise the design of the reading room.
An important part of the design is the well thought-out lighting concept, which blends seamlessly with the colour scheme of the room. The copper finish of Lightnet's Basic Superflat surface mounted luminaire perfectly complements the warm wood tones of the interior. With a diameter of 600 millimetres, the organically shaped luminaire blends harmoniously into the overall concept, while its narrow rim adds a modern touch to the room. In order to emphasise the effect of the different ceiling materials, surface-mounted luminaires with both direct and indirect light distribution have been used. This creates a beautiful effect on the glossy black ceilings, for example. The right level of reading light is provided by a microprismatic optic that reduces glare to a minimum.
