Casa Girola

Redevelopment in the heart of the fashion capital

Casa Girola is one of Milan’s historic buildings, built in the late 1800s as the headquarters of the construction company from which it takes its name. Subject to a subsequent restoration by Piero Portaluppi between 1910 and 1932, today it has been restored once more thanks to a detailed redevelopment project realised by the Progetto CMR studio. The objective is to bring new life to the structure, introducing elements of lightness, fluidity and elegance, typical of modern and contemporary styling, whilst maintaining the strong bond with its past.

The result is a dynamic and fluid continuum between the various environments, perceptible from the building’s entrance where – thanks to the large windows in the main courtyard – it is possible to appreciate the depth and succession of expansive spaces such as the gallery along with the informal and flexible areas characterised by the presence of ethereal features and green walls.

The true protagonist of the lighting project designed to enhance the redevelopment operation is undoubtedly the Tour suspension light, a truly spectacular fixture able to guarantee diffused and uniform illumination throughout the environment in which it is installed. Here, the various versions have been fitted in different areas, in the meeting room on the top floor of the building near the terrace, downstairs and even in the basement.

Outside, rather, a completely customised Tour “Maxi” has been installed in the main courtyard, for a veritable luminous sculpture projected towards the sky.

Specially designed and realised by the Linea Light Group team based on an idea developed by Progetto CMR, the Tour “Maxi” not only aligns perfectly to the context in which the figure has been installed but also enhances and highlights the space to perfection. Supported by special cables connecting to a central metal ring able to withstand the wind, the Tour “Maxi” consists of 2 suspension lights of 4.80 metres in diameter intertwined with another 2 suspension lights measuring 3.20 metres, with the central light emission being suited for outdoors. The spectacular effect is ensured, both during the daytime and evening.
