Metalco presents OMBRA IN CITTÀ by MAKIO HASUIKE & CO

A subtle play pf light and shade

The small spaces, the alternation between streets and squares, the massive presence of industrial buildings and housing developments, and air pollution, prevent the creation of natural shady places in the cities, inevitably leading to the creation of microclimates that are not conducive to the well-being of citizens. For this reason, today more than ever, a city that really wants to take care of the well-being of its inhabitants must learn to provide artificial grey areas that can restore some balance and avoid excessive overheating of the environment.

The “Ombra in Città” project was born with this aim: versatile and recognizable micro-architectures to offer comfort and charm and create pleasant places, capable of encouraging life in the city. The shading structures become integrated elements in the urban space, iconic places in harmony between architecture and nature, on which to stop to wait, rest, work or communicate.

Makio Hasuike & Co conceive a series of modular structures with shading purposes interpreting the primary purpose of these structures innovatively because, to the functional, constructive, and installation factors, he combines his personal vision of comfort and integration in the urban context, aimed at favoring sociality and to requalify the context.

A highly versatile system comes from the study of a modular element that can be oriented in four different angles. The combination of the modules can generate various spatial combinations suitable for both linear paths and for shading large areas. The final perception is a composed dynamism.

The "petals", which can be adjusted during installation according to a series of predefined positions, offer maximum positioning flexibility and a play of overlapping that leads to a more natural perception of the shade.
