Gardens: light and shadow at dusk

We give you the main elements to consider so that the play of light and shadow transforms the garden into an evocative setting that encourages long evenings with friends, chats and laughter.

The good weather is approaching, with its long outdoor evenings. Gardens are gaining prominence and we want to enjoy them both during the day and at night. The hospitality industry is well aware of the impact that outdoor lighting has on the customer experience and how much it influences the customer's appreciation of a well cared for and evocative outdoor environment. Terraces, porches and private gardens also become a place for meeting and enjoyment.

We give you the main elements to consider so that the play of light and shadow transforms the garden into an evocative setting that encourages long evenings with friends, chats and laughter.

The aim is to create an elegant and coherent ensemble, full of nuances. Our outdoor lighting brands Dopo and Cristher will help you achieve this.

Functional zones:

The lighting of the porch or outdoor ‘work’ areas, whether for reading, dining or parking, has both a decorative and functional dimension, but must not dazzle or impede the enjoyment of the whole outdoor spectacle. Both the design and the technical performance of the luminaires are to be framed within the lighting project, taking into account the practical and safety requirements of each of these spaces.;

Choose luminaires that provide adequate ambient light, sufficient without being aggressive, soft and warm, to promote a relaxed atmosphere, without visually disconnecting these areas from the more nuanced lighting of their direct surroundings. The NELL collection: of suspended luminaires and wall lights are both functional and decorative. Floor or table luminaires can complete the ambience.

Lighting pathways, meeting points, entrances and exits, stairs and changes of level is important and, although it is a functional necessity, it can play a role in the overall ambience. It is not necessary to shine too much light; we recommend rather to point the way, to accompany the person who is moving, so that they feel safe. Beacons and columns are a great option: they illuminate without dazzling or overpowering, while maintaining a decorative point. Have you seen the DAIN range? It is specially designed for outdoor use and its beacons are available in two different heights of 300 mm and 700 mm, with built-in LED source. The entire range is made of aluminium with an IP66 degree of protection. The different body colours and the possibility of changing the front plate allow for a wide combination of finishes. The discretion of these luminaires give you the option of using accent lighting to highlight those elements that deserve more attention, whether they are trees or flowerbeds, or vertical or horizontal planes such as a wall or the water in a swimming pool.

Illuminate the main elements of the garden at night:

Every garden contains elements that deserve to be highlighted. Keep them in the limelight after sunset.

It can be a tree, a sculpture, a fountain. The correct selection of the luminaire, as well as the orientation of the light, upward or downward, frontal or lateral, are the two elements that will determine the more or less dramatic or striking effect of the staging. Floor recessed or directional spotlights, with or without spike, are ideal highlighting luminaires. You can then complete the outdoor lighting project by sectoring, setting the ambience of the other spaces, working by zones and by lighting ‘layers’, as if the garden were a painting.

Floor pegs, wall lights and wall washers are an excellent resource in cases like this.Discover our LANCE range: its linear design adds a very elegant decorative touch. It includes a floor pole in 800 mm and 1200 mm lengths, a wall light with indirect lighting and a 1000 mm adjustable mini linear projector. Made of aluminium with an anthracite finish, it has colour temperature options of both 3000K and 4000K. This family is very versatile and offers a variety of solutions to the lighting needs of outdoor spaces.

Architectural lighting at night:

It takes advantage of existing architectural elements to vary the effects and increase the interest of the staging. Highlight the texture of a natural stone wall with atmospheric lighting or use it as a canvas to cast shadows or silhouettes. You choose to give it prominence or treat it as if it were a canvas..

We usually recommend a rather warm light for these types of implementations. Our WALK technical range consists of surface mounted and recessed downlights. It is available in various colour temperatures and in RGB version, and offers different types of maximum power, reaching up to 80W.

You are sure to find, among the wall washer lights of the LANCE family and the technical outdoor floodlights of our DISC range, the solution you need for your outdoor project.

The swimming pool and its lighting at night:

The pool area deserves a special mention. In addition to luminaires that will help to enhance the space while maintaining safety, submersible recessed luminaires create spectacular effects. They come with a reinforcement that makes them waterproof and are available in a variety of colours. The NINO family of submersible recessed lights is made of stainless steel, is IP68 rated and is also suitable for out-of-water installations. Two versions of the embedding depth are available: 8 cm and 6 cm. Available in warm white, RGB, plus neutral, blue, red and green (6 cm version only). If you are looking for flexibility in terms of the beam of light, the PAL submersible recessed lights are made of brass and come in two finishes: white and stainless steel. They are IP68 rated and are suitable for installation in both prefabricated and concrete pools. Available in warm white and RGB. Choose between two optics, narrow or medium.
