On the Mediterranean coast, Monaco opened a thalassotherapy center when discovering thermal springs in 1908 and created the Thermal Centre inaugurated by Prince Albert I. Hotspot of the Riviera, the baths rapidly became a reference across Europe. Modernized in 1928, the venue was heavily blitzed during World War II . Forty years later, under the leadership of Prince Rainier III of Monaco, the ‘Thermes Marins’ were rehabilitated. The hotel was later inaugurated in 1955 and became one of the most popular European destination.
