Grenn Epoxy Resin and green building

Also the Epoxy Resin can be Green

Many will be asking themselves this question: 'what do resins have to do with green building? Can they also be green?"

Yes, resins can be green too. We have talked about this in the articles "Ecological Resins for Flooring. Do they really exist?" and "Water-based resins: environmentally friendly, human-friendly"; here we briefly review their eco-sustainable characteristics.

Whereas in the past, mainly solvent-based resins were commercially available, today water-based resins, which are more respectful of human health and the environment, are mainly used.

Many formulations, for example, comply with thresholds set to limit the presence of VOCs, volatile chemical substances that, when inhaled, can cause irritation of the respiratory tract, asthma, allergies, headaches, etc.

Resin floors can also improve air quality: being waterproof, they do not produce moisture and discourage the build-up of bacteria.

Maintenance is quick and easy: all you need to clean a resin floor is water and a mop. This means that the use of aggressive detergents, cleaners and solvents can be avoided, to the benefit of man and the environment.

Then there are the solid epoxy resins, formulated without water or solvents: during laying and once dry, therefore, they do not emit harmful gases or unpleasant odours.

Resin floors also save energy, because their surface can increase ambient brightness by 300%.

On substrates of concrete or other materials, the resin layer acts as a "sealant" because it prevents any harmful substances released during the normal ageing process of the building from contaminating the environment.

Resin floors are also green allies in the case of renovation: in most cases, in fact, it is not necessary to remove the old floor, an operation that creates waste that is often difficult to dispose of. After adequate preparation, in fact, the resin can be laid on the existing surface without any problems.
