Coallia : a chameleon residence with iridescent terracotta scales

PERIPHERIQUES Architectes

Swathed in its light, the Coallia social housing development on rue Lorraine, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, provides as enrapturing a spectacle as the sea whose colour and shimmering changes with the sky.

Indeed, its façades clad in Terreal iridescent ceramic terracotta rainscreens create a surprise by revealing

reflections that are in turn blueish or metallic ivories depending on the weather conditions. An exceptional

finish... despite the significant architectural restrictions.

For Anne-Françoise Jumeau, PERIPHERIQUES Architects “If there is a field in which we are able to showcase creativity and innovation, it’s façade installations! Here, we wanted highly stylised lines that connect with each other and contradict each other while working on the movement of the skyline and the dynamics of the façade surface. Therefore, the relief of the rainscreens and their iridescent ceramic glazed create changing reflections

that bring the building to life : the façade vibrates with the light."
