Wavy façade made with coated zinc

Discover all the details of the envelope of this industrial building with more than 13,500m2 of façade, resolved with zinc and the Cabrera profile from TAS. This is the new logistics center built for the children's clothing company Mayoral.

This new building, located in Malaga, has more than 15,600 m2 of surface and a façade height of 20 meters. The exterior envelope of this building has been built with the Cabrera profile. Specifically, more than 2,000 pieces of zinc Cabrera Profile have been manufactured with a thickness of 0.7 mm, coated on both sides in RAL 9016 color and R2T4 microperforated.

Tailor-made suit for a unique building

This project has required a high level involvement from our technical department since a “tailor-made suit” has been created for the envelope. In this sense, each piece of the Cabrera Profile has been custom-made one by one, taking into account the inclination and curvature of each sector of the façade for an optimal fit.

Although zinc is a resistant and durable metal, at TAS we always take all necessary precautions during the manufacturing of each profile, as well as in its packaging to avoid any type of damage or incident. So, for this project, each package of manufactured profiles was delivered in a pallet container that went directly to the construction site for installation on the façade.

The manufacturing and supply of material for this project has spanned a period of around 9 months. During this time, a close collaboration between our client and our commercial and production departments has been necessary to meet all the established milestones of the project and go hand in hand with our client in each phase of the project.

The envelope built with corrugated zinc sheet with the Cabrera Profile has been fixed on a curved metal structure to achieve the wavy effect. This structure has been fixed on S355 steel tubular profiles that have been applied as three-dimensional trusses along the entire perimeter and structure of the building. According to the technical office responsible for the project, CEMOSA, around 1,500 tons of steel have been used for the construction of the entire structure.

Inner envelope

On the other hand, the inner skin of the building has been resolved with 9,000 m2 of translucent white polycarbonate panels, which, thanks to the R2T4 microperforation of the installed façade profile, provides a large amount of natural lighting to the interior of the building.

This original combination between the interior and exterior cladding of the building allows to achieve an excellent and sustainable architectural solution since it will greatly reduce energy consumption to illuminate the facilities.

In terms of sustainability, this building has been conceived following the principles of the circular economy, since most of the materials used in its construction - steel, zinc and polycarbonate - are 100% recyclable.

This new industrial warehouse has been designed by the prestigious architect Rafael Urquiza Sánchez of System Arquitectura and the main contractor for the project has been the Malaga construction company SANDO.
