Boxmeer – Town Hall Square with 8.3 m³ Water Storage in the planters
BERA WaterUps® - wicking from below
Self-watering BERA WaterUps systems installed in custom-made corten steel planters supplied by Furns, not only ensure 80% savings in water and time, but also provide 8.3 m³ of water storage to help cope with dry periods. A beautiful greening of the square — sustainable and water-efficient.
The WaterUps capillary cells are placed directly beneath the plants, preventing evaporation or unnecessary runoff of (rain)water. Refilling the reservoir once every 2–4 weeks is generally sufficient during the summer months.
In winter, the 12 planters make way for the ice rink — they are equipped with sleeves for forklift handling.
Key Benefits of the BERA WaterUps:
- Up to 80% less watering, saving both water and labor costs
- Stronger root development, leading to healthier, more resilient plants and trees
- Faster plant and tree growth, improving green space establishment
- Lower failure rates for young vegetation, reducing replacement costs
- A greener and cooler environment, contributing to urban sustainability
- Ideal for home gardening, ensuring optimal hydration for vegetables, herbs and fruits
- Consistent moisture levels, leading to higher yields and better-quality produce
Over time, as roots establish themselves, plants become more stable and resilient while maintaining continuous access to moisture. Since 2016, WaterUps wicking solutions have been rigorously tested across various applications, including gardens, landscaping projects, nurseries, city farming, and home vegetable cultivation, proving their efficiency in sustainable water management.
