Hotel Ancora Cortina: bespoke Berti oak flooring for Alpine hospitality
In Cortina d’Ampezzo, custom oak flooring combines Italian craftsmanship, technical performance and contemporary design
In the heart of Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the Dolomites, the historic Hotel Ancora introduces a new interpretation of Alpine hospitality, where heritage, contemporary design and natural materials come together in a distinctive interior project.
Founded in 1826 and now owned by Renzo Rosso, Hotel Ancora reopened in 2025 following an extensive renovation. The interiors, designed by Vicky Charles / Charles & Co., were conceived to preserve the hotel’s historic identity while reinterpreting it through a contemporary design language.
Within this context, Berti Pavimenti Legno supplied bespoke oak flooring developed specifically for the project and designed to integrate seamlessly with the character of the interiors.
Bespoke oak flooring developed from a custom sample
For Hotel Ancora, Berti created custom-coloured oak planks, developing the finish from a dedicated sample in order to meet the precise aesthetic requirements of the project.
The boards feature bevelled and rounded edges, details that contribute to a more authentic and naturally aged appearance. The resulting flooring preserves the warmth and tactile quality of natural wood while blending harmoniously with interiors that combine Alpine references, sophisticated furnishings and contemporary details.
The bespoke flooring therefore becomes an integral part of the interior design concept: not simply a surface finish, but a material that contributes to the atmosphere and identity of each space.
Technical performance for hospitality environments
In the hospitality sector, aesthetics must be combined with specific requirements in terms of safety, durability and resistance.
For this reason, the Berti flooring developed for Hotel Ancora features fire-retardant treatment, antibacterial finishing and high wear resistance, characteristics that are particularly relevant in contract environments and high-traffic areas.
Reception spaces, corridors, guest rooms and common areas require surfaces capable of withstanding intensive use while maintaining their aesthetic quality and performance over time.
The project demonstrates how natural wood flooring can successfully combine the visual requirements of high-end interior design with the technical demands of the hospitality sector.
Wood as part of the interior architecture
At Hotel Ancora, oak flooring helps create a dialogue between the history of the building and its renewed identity.
The bespoke tones, carefully finished edges and tactile appearance of the boards evoke the natural character of the Dolomites, while the custom design allows the flooring to become fully integrated into the overall interior concept.
This balance between craftsmanship, customisation and technology is one of the defining elements of Berti’s contribution to the project.
