Urban furniture in Pego: an intervention to organise, connect and improve public space
In Pego, Alicante, Cervic Environment has installed a combination of urban furniture solutions
In Pego, Alicante, Cervic Environment has installed a combination of urban furniture solutions designed to improve the experience of public space through seating areas, integrated greenery and a more orderly delimitation of functional zones.
The project includes the Osaka planter, the Osaka bench, the Málaga bench and the Elba container screen. The intervention responds to a common need in urban environments: to incorporate elements that enhance the space, encourage people to stay, organise pedestrian flows and improve the visual integration of service areas without obstructing circulation.
A set of urban furniture for a more legible space
Located in the Marina Alta region, Pego has an urban environment where furniture must fulfil several functions at once. In this intervention, the installed elements provide seating, greenery, compositional flexibility and visual order.
The Osaka planter introduces green areas and helps create smoother transitions between circulation and resting areas. The Osaka bench enables modular configurations that combine seating and vegetation. The Málaga bench adds formal continuity through straight and curved modules. Meanwhile, the Elba container screen delimits the waste collection area and improves its integration into the urban landscape.
The result is a discreet yet functional intervention aimed at making public space clearer, more accessible and more welcoming for residents, visitors and everyday users.
Osaka planter: greenery integrated into urban design
The Osaka planter makes it possible to introduce vegetation into squares, streets and resting areas without interrupting pedestrian circulation. It is available in square and diamond-shaped formats, with capacities of 530 L, 450 L, 240 L and 220 L, and heights of 850 mm for the taller versions and 420 mm for the lower versions.
Its design allows compositions with different volumes and heights, making it possible to adapt greenery to the character of each space. In addition to providing aesthetic value, the planters help define routes, create areas for staying and soften the transition between paved areas.
The piece includes drainage holes, height-adjustable articulated feet and the possibility of floor anchoring. It is made of galvanised steel with corrosion protection, a relevant feature for continuous outdoor use.
Osaka bench: a modular seating and greenery system
The Osaka bench is conceived as a modular system capable of combining benches and planters in square and diamond-shaped forms. Its modules allow for linear compositions, seating clusters or mixed configurations where seating is integrated with green areas.
Both the bench and planter versions are available in heights of 450 mm and 880 mm, making it easier to create sets adapted to different project requirements. This flexibility allows designers to create resting areas without imposing a rigid geometry on the space.
The bench can include slats in ReciPlast, WPC or tropical wood. The eco-friendly options are designed to withstand adverse weather conditions and reduce maintenance needs, an important factor for equipment installed in public spaces.
Málaga bench: straight and curved modules to create routes
The Málaga bench offers a flexible solution for projects that require formal continuity and adaptation to the existing space. It is composed of straight and curved modules that can be connected to one another, allowing for sinuous, elongated or circular configurations.
This compositional capacity is especially useful in public spaces where furniture must accompany routes, surround existing greenery or create meeting areas without forming visual or physical barriers. The bench can include an inner backrest, outer backrest and armrests, depending on usage requirements.
In the Pego intervention, the Málaga bench helps create places to rest and interact, reinforcing the social character of public space through a more dynamic seating arrangement.
WPC: warm appearance and low maintenance
Both the Osaka bench and the Málaga bench can include WPC slats, a synthetic wood made from recycled plant waste and polymers. This material offers a warm appearance similar to wood, with performance suited to outdoor installations.
WPC does not require the usual maintenance associated with natural wood and provides resistance to humidity, solar radiation and temperature changes. It also helps avoid issues such as splinters or cracks, improving the user experience in public spaces.
Its use in urban furniture makes it possible to combine a warmer visual appearance with practical criteria such as durability and reduced maintenance.
Elba container screen: visual order for functional areas
The Elba container screen is used to delimit and visually organise waste collection areas. It is a modular enclosure that can be configured in multiple positions, with 90° or 180° right angles and variable angles from 0° to 135°.
It is available in heights of 1200 mm and 1800 mm, and can include an optional door with a braked wheel, padlock closure and floor fixing. Like other elements in the project, it is made of galvanised steel protected against corrosion.
In Pego, Elba improves the visual integration of waste containers without compromising operational accessibility. The solution helps ensure that a functional area maintains a more orderly presence within the urban setting.
An intervention focused on everyday use
The project installed by Cervic Environment in Pego shows how a coordinated selection of urban furniture can transform the perception of public space through specific decisions: introducing greenery, providing places to sit, encouraging interaction between users and visually organising service areas.
The combination of the Osaka planter, Osaka bench, Málaga bench and Elba container screen reflects a functional approach to urban design. Each element has a specific role, yet all contribute to the same objective: making public space clearer, more liveable and more pleasant in everyday use.
With this intervention, Cervic Environment strengthens its line of urban equipment solutions aimed at municipalities, public administrations, architecture studios and professionals responsible for designing outdoor spaces.
