The contemporary living by Désirée

A blend of indoor and outdoor, craftsmanship and sustainability

The new collections unveiled at the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2024 by Désirée, a company within Gruppo Euromobil specializing in the creation of Made in Italy upholstered furniture, are the work of designers Marc Sadler, Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez, Jai Jalan, and Setsu & Shinobu Ito. A living proposal that transcends aesthetics, offering a sensory journey through artisanal processes and the melding of indoor and outdoor spaces, all while preserving the brand's sustainable ethos with finishes designed for longevity.

A vintage allure inspired by the 1970s defines the Dorvan modular sofa, with its soft, rounded lines designed by Matteo Thun & Antonio Rodriguez. Featuring a structure of modular steel tubing into which the feet, connecting elements, and the back, seat, and arm padding slot into place, Dorvan has two main features: easy maintenance thanks to the removable covers, and sustainability, as each material - metal, plastic, or polyurethane - can be separated, disposed of, or recycled at the end of its life. Designed for assembly in linear, corner, or island compositions, the sofa can be upholstered in any fabric or leather. Dorvan is also available in an outdoor version, suitable for covered or partially-covered external environments, with single or two-tone upholstery.

The soft, rounded lines characteristic of Dorvan are also reflected in the matching collection of side tables: available in three sizes, they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor covered settings. The curved base in solid Iroko wood, either natural or carbon-stained, wraps around the rounded perimeter of the top, available in three types of matte marble: white Carrara, black Marquina, or grey Silver Roots. The result is a harmonious blend of materials and shapes, functionality and versatility.

The geometric rigour and functional beauty of the Bauhaus inspired Marc Sadler in designing the Melvil sofa, distinguished by its impressive, square and slightly convex-shaped padded elements. The seat features deep-buttoned “capitonné” effect upholstery, created by a quilting stitch every 40 cm and a visible seam that elegantly defines its contours. The Melvil collection consists of mobile backrests in various shapes, either straight or angled, that can stand alone or be paired with a corner structure in chromed metal, a characteristic element of Bauhaus design.

Canadian designer Jai Jalan designed the Ethìa modular sofa, characterized by organic and curvy forms. It comprises slightly rounded, padded elements in various sizes, which can be put together to create islands or chaise longues. This arrangement adds a fluid dynamism to the space, where the sofa becomes the focal point of comfort and hospitality. The quilted-effect stitching detail along the backrests, fixed to the padded base with visible metallic elements in a bronze finish, adds tactile and visual sensory qualities that highlight the company's craftsmanship.

In homage to their Eastern origins, designers Setsu & Shinobu Ito envisioned the Imae coffee tables. A cylindrical base and a circular, projecting top that give rise to a geometrical and minimalist piece of furniture. The structure of the base is made of metal and MDF lacquered wood with a burnished metal effect while the top - available in two sizes - can be in white Carrara, black Marquina or grey Silver Roots marble.

The creative duo's design flair is also evident in the Gradé rug collection, which perfectly showcases Désirée's manufacturing capabilities. The name is inspired by the colour vibrations of the yarn made from 100% New Zealand wool, whose shades vary from pearl to anthracite. Crafted using the hand tufting technique, that consists in inserting tufts of yarn into a canvas base, these accessories feature a texture made of either bouclé or velvet points.

Strengthened by its historic collaborations, such as with architect Roberto Gobbo, Art Director of Gruppo Euromobil, and with internationally renowned designers like design maestro Tobia Scarpa, Désirée explores new shapes, materials, and configurations. It proposes products capable of responding to the evolving needs of contemporary spaces, bridging indoor and outdoor environments. With roots in the art of tailoring and an eye towards the future, the brand harmonizes essential forms and pure geometries with nature.
