Safe Standing in Sweden: Ferco RailSeat Equips Malmö FF's Away Supporters Section

Malmö Fotbollförening, commonly known as Malmö FF, is the most successful football club in Sweden in terms of trophies won, and the only club from a Nordic country to have reached the final of the European Cup. Formed in 1910 and affiliated with Skånes Fotbollförbund, Malmö FF are based at Stadion in Malmö.

Following the 2004 victory in Allsvenskan, plans were made to construct a new stadium. First opened in 2009, the €79.7 million construction project has a capacity of 24,000 - the third largest in the league. Stadion is designed for 18,000 seated spectators and 6,000 standing terrace place (Safe Standing).

The stadium can also accommodate 21,000 as an all-seater for international and European games in which terracing is not allowed. Stadion is a UEFA category 4 rated stadium.

In the latest European Safe Standing installation, Ferco were asked to provide 589 RailSeat's for the Away Supporters section at Malmo FF.

Malmo required the top rail to be 1,100mm from the standing level and two seat widths were provided to maximise numbers.

The club colours, reflected in their crest and kit, are sky blue and white, with sky blue shirts and white shorts being the club's traditional kit colours. Ferco were able to match these colours in the seating.

Developed as a way to allow fans to stand safely at domestic club matches and be seated at international and European matches, Ferco's RailSeat is an innovative and practical design.

The design of the RailSeat allows stadium staff to easily lock or unlock the seat depending on the requirement while remaining tamperproof by those without a specialist key.
