The central HRV system solution FITT Agix® used in a complete renovation in Milan

FITT Agix® is the central HRV system solution for guaranteeing the air quality

FITT Agix® is the double flow heat recovery ventilation system that meets the needs of professionals, installers and distributors. A central, complete and certified system offering innovative solutions, from antibacterial and antistatic ducts, to reversible air distribution and diffusion systems.

The designers (Arch. Valentina Mometto and Eng. Paolo Bianchi from Studio PBIngegneri of Milan), have redesigned the layout of an apartment dating back to the seventies - paying particular attention to space distribution and construction details -, to ensure a more modern and more usable outlook. The renovation project included the creation of a large living space with open plan kitchen, study, single bedroom, bathroom and double bedroom with en suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. The apartment, in the centre of Milan just a short walk from City Life, enjoys a high level of natural light.

The renovation: HRV and the other systems

The system components were also completely refurbished and the design dynamic integrating architecture and engineering has allowed the utmost control of the balance between aesthetic style and technological avant-garde.

Both the systems connected to the central apartment complex network, such as heating and domestic hot water, and those specific for the apartment, such as air conditioning, electricity and special features, were entirely redesigned.

The operation of all the main systems is fully centralized through a home automation control and regulation system.

The heat recovery ventilation system was strongly desired by the project team to ensure superior air quality for the inhabitants. The many benefits of the installation of the system in the apartment: first, the possibility of renewing the air inside the rooms, whilst at the same time eliminating polluting particles; second , the possibility of enjoying open space living without the spreading of smells from the open plan kitchen to the noble areas of the apartment, thanks to the ventilation system ensuring negative pressure in the service areas in relation to the other surrounding environments.

HRV installation

The installation of a heat recovery ventilation system normally requires larger spaces, not available with this renovation. The needs to be met were many: from the identification of the spaces for the capillary distribution of the air channels, to the realization of air intake and exhaust vents as part of an apartment complex building, to the identification of the spaces for the installation of the air and ventilation unit vents, to the balancing of the air flow rates.

FITT Agix®, the heat recovery ventilation system from FITT, proved an efficient solution to the challenges faced by the designers.

The compact ventilation unit was installed in the only lowered technical space of the apartment, and the constant flow rate operation allows to reach the different areas of the house, in spite of the unit not being installed in a central position in relation to the floor plan, due to architectural reasons. Lastly, given the high pollution levels typical of large metropolitan areas like Milan, the design also required a highly efficient external air treatment system.

The efficiency of the exchanger allowed to reduce the ventilation loads as much as possible, allowing a wider and architecturally more integrated choice of heating radiators.

The choice of the type of aeraulic distribution was also affected by the integration of the various systems: with the raising of the floor system screed, it was possible to take advantage of the space made available for housing the distribution channels. The renovation demonstrated that the FITT Agix® ducts are well suited for installation in false ceilings, partition walls and also floor slabs, as a further proof of both flexibility of use and strength. The available accessories made the installation activities much easier for the installers.

The integration of the air vents with the walls of the apartment, so that they are almost totally concealed, was also a project requirement, and led to the selection of FITT Agix® INTEGRA disc valves. The same type of vent is suitable for use in both the delivery lines, ensuring a radial distribution of the air, and the return lines - by introducing appropriate filters -, to ensure even continuity.

The vents also allow local and precise control of flow rates, therefore resolving any head issues due to the non-central position of the ventilation unit.

A significant project, part of a residential renovation project in which technical needs required full integration with aesthetic requirements and the demands of daily living, and to which FITT Agix® contributed, in the eyes of both designers and customers, with tangible and efficient solutions capable of ensuring air quality through an integrated design path based on the continuous comparison of the various disciplines.
