Schwarzwand, Lech: Boom carpets define an Alpine boutique hotel

Where Alpine charm meets Italian design

In Lech am Arlberg, surrounded by the snow-covered landscape of one of the Austrian Alps’ most exclusive destinations, architect Birgit Elsensohn has reinterpreted the historic Schwarzwand boutique hotel through a project that moves beyond the traditional codes of Alpine interiors.

Here, Italian elegance meets a contemporary idea of comfort, shaped by natural materials, warm tones and a rigorous simplicity designed to stand the test of time.

At the heart of the project are G.T.DESIGN’s Boom carpets, handcrafted in wool and bamboo, bringing a quiet, tactile presence to the interiors. Two custom-developed tones — a deep amber inspired by tree resin and a delicate ivory — flow throughout the hotel, from the suites and common areas to the intimate bar gathered around the fireplace and the spaces dedicated to relaxation.

Boom’s natural texture enters into dialogue with Alpine oak and Italian marble, creating a visual and tactile continuity between the elements of the interior. Materials, colours and surfaces come together in an essential balance, evoking the identity of the historic Walser house while expressing a distinctly contemporary sensibility.

At Schwarzwand, the carpet becomes part of the architecture: a surface that defines spaces, embraces everyday life and preserves the memory of a place through a new material language.

A meeting of Alpine heritage and Italian design, where every detail contributes to an authentic and timeless atmosphere.
