Invisible mobility in a historic setting: rethinking a 19th-century courtyard
A car lift system enhances functionality while preserving architectural identity
In the historic center of Trento, a private redevelopment project demonstrates how advanced technology can be integrated into heritage architecture without compromise.
Within the courtyard of a 19th-century building, a car lift system provides access to an underground garage, eliminating the need for space-consuming ramps. Vehicles are transported smoothly and quietly, interacting with existing structures without altering their historical value.
The design approach focuses on preserving original architectural elements while seamlessly integrating the new system. On the lower level, a protective glass wall showcases both the vehicle and the mechanical system, turning them into part of the spatial experience.
At ground level, the drivable cover blends perfectly with the courtyard paving, maintaining a continuous and usable surface. Materials and finishes are carefully selected to harmonize with the historical context.
The project reflects a contemporary approach to private mobility in heritage environments: enhancing functionality while respecting the identity of the place.
