The Stade Vélodrome went down in the sports and architecture history for being the first stadium built in cement. A major effort was made to provide a skai tissue with fire retardant properties to overcome the demanding French standard AM 18, and resistant to ultraviolet rays, like the shells. The Stade Vélodrome establishes itself as one of the most important stadiums in Europe.
