Institut de France: Auditorium André et Liliane Bettencourt

Model: Perseo PA

The Institut de France took advantage of an exceptional plot in the centre of Paris to create a modern and prestigious building that would fulfil its long lasting desire to open its premises to the general public. The venue should allow a multiple use of the space and therefore the auditorium was not only planned to accommodate every kind of performance but also to meet the highest acoustic standards: every element that composes the room was acoustically tested.

Ascénder worked in close collaboration with the architect Marc Barani and the theatre consultant Ducks Sceno to develop a bespoke multi-purpose seat that would a mix use for concerts and conferences.

A separate chapter should be written about the meticulous integration of the sound equipment: microphone and speakers perfectly recessed with the upholstery and without visible fixings. And all this combined with a modern metal plate with built in power outlet located on the front side of the standards to conceal the anti panic writing tablet. The result in terms of comfort, acoustic absorption and ergonomics is a clear success of combining Ascénder’s R&D with the requirements of the architect Marc Barani and the technical capacity of the theatre consultant Ducks Sceno.
