The École Supérieure des Technologies Industrielles Avancées, is a postgraduate school in Engineering & Research located in the technological park of Bidart, France.
Ascénder was requested to supply a very special solution for the 3 lecture halls of its new building: large timber panels fixed inside the structure of the floor that would work also as back of the chair and support for the tipping seats.
The idea was concealing all metal parts while giving the sole leading role to wood. Thus, the fabric of the seat and its small metal hinges are the only other visible materials.
Ascénder carried out various surveys during the construction of the venue to manufacture the chairs that would be installed in two phases: first the fixing of the structures, then the assembly of the seats. Double stitching covers, slow tipping mechanism, concealed fixing and no visible power and data cable conducting are some of the finishes that can be seen in these venues.
